Music and roses

I would rather have roses on my table,
then diamonds around my neck!

May 2015

We really have been spoiled with fabulous weather this spring.  The gardens everywhere are so colourful.  The following pictures are all taken in the last week or so.
When we first moved to Fairfield Island, this bush was on the opposite side of our yard, in the shade, and all it ever seemed to produce was leaves.  I was ready to pull it out and ditch it, until I found a few tiny, measily lilacs growing on it.  So I dug it out, moved it to a sunny part of the garden, and just hoped that it would survive, since it was such a big bush.  The first spring it didn't do to much, but this year, as you can see, it's just loaded with blooms.
The raspberries are coming along nicely.
Some day's, like last Friday, it just feels like summer already.
I love this community garden, located where the Paramount Theatre used to be, and this art installation.

How brave a ladybug must be!
Each drop of rain as big as she.
Can you imagine what you'd do,
If raindrops fell as big as you?

In spring, at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt ~ Margaret Atwood
I agree!

I was so thrilled to see a Barred Owl on my walk to the Kinsman Hall.  I would have totally missed it if another dog walker hadn't pointed it out to me.  Since I didn't have a good zoom lens I was fortunate to be able to get close so it, as it was sitting in a tree next to the bridge.

 This view never gets old!

The first wild berries are already ripening.
Love walking near the Bell Creek and finding a patch of long grass full of Damselfly's

Yesterday Benj and I drove out to the river, in the Hippie Van of course, to watch the sunset (without the kids!)

I had a wee bit of fun throwing rocks in the river and trying to capture the splash.  A bit tricky to do alone, but worth the results I think.

I rather love this quirky clay jar that Jeremy made in art

Dollar stores are a fabulous place to find neat garden things.  Those of you who know me well, know that I LOVE mushrooms!  So of course I couldn't resist these two cute little one's I found at the Dollar store in the Cottonwood Mall.  That's also where I found this nifty little twine dispenser/tin.

Absolute Style 2015

On April 29, 2015, Charlynn was one of the models for the UFV Fashion Design program year-end show.  Along with many other young ladies, she auditioned for this position and was thrilled to be excepted, especially since some of the other models had much more experience.  Following fittings and hours of training, on the day of the show, the models all had to go in early to get their hair and make-up done.  Below are pictures of the event, as it was in the afternoon.  The only difference with the evening program is that in the afternoon the models all come out and do a walk about the runway, but in the evening the designers walk out, along with one girl they chose to represent their collection.  Charlynn was thrilled to walk out with Wren Barber - Keeli Designs, to represent her fairie inspired skating collection. (because of the lighting, and where I was sitting, the picture quality isn't great, but at least you get an idea of what it all looked like)
Above, the run way.  Below, the first set was Bustiers in a Steampunk theme.

I loved the coats in this set.

And at the end of the afternoon show, all the models walk the runway.  Well done!

I took the girls out of school for the afternoon to watch Charlynn.  It's not every day that your big sister gets to do what she always dreamed of doing.
So proud of Lynn!
